April showers to bring May flowers
We had to leave Cape Breton for a while as we are but seasonal residents at best. We flew from Halifax to Austin, Texas. We drove from Austin to San Antonio and caught the cross country train to Los Angeles. Next we rode the Metrolink train to Oxnard and on to Ventura for a visit to our beloved Rancho Aliso, or what is left of her. From Ventura we went north to where it all started for the two of us in Independence, California and a wonderful visit with my Mom, Dad, brother and sister. From there we went north to Reno, Nevada; back west to Sacramento, California; then north again to Springfield, Oregon to visit Christina's brother, Kenny and his wife Pamn; on to Florence, Oregon to visit Christina's lil' sister and her husband Tom; then east to Redmond, Oregon to visit Christina's brother Tom and his wife, Judy. From there we went north towards the Columbia River and visited my cousin, Greg, the original XTREME athlete, at his ranch in Wamic, Oregon. From there it was across the Camus Prairie of Idaho, up to Butte, Montana, across North Dakota, and back into Canada at Winnipeg. We had a chance to see Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the streets of Montreal, the cannons of Quebec City, and the Loyalist town of Saint John, New Brunswick. We made a final stop to visit our son, Wesley, and his wife, Dawn, along with our grandkids Fionna and Dylan Fitz-Patrick.

We have completed our tour of Nova Scotia by driving the Lighthouse Trail from Wolfville to St. Mary's Bay, down to Yarmouth, over to Shelburne to Liverpool, next to Luneburg and Mahone Bay, ending up back at Halifax. Next we head for St. John Newfoundland, Savannah, Georgia, and the 2010 Clan Gathering of the Mac Giollo Padraigh.

This has been the mildest of Aprils that we have seen. Temps have averaged well above the melting point with all the snow gone by mid-March. With the exception of a few days of rain for May flowers, we have had sunny skies with fluffy white clouds and warm afternoons.

Christina continues to pursue her writing, painting, sewing, and crafting in her art studio in the basement of our house. We have, with the priceless assistance our friend, Tedy Mädl, put together a new website that features our "Produced In Cape Breton" products.

There will be a Gaelic Film Festival sponsored by my Gaelic group on the first day of May. Please visit the website that Tedy and I put together for the occasion.

We have decided to sell the GlenWaddell forest tree lot. We've put a lot of work into getting access, survey, migration of land rights, and completing the certification and Forest Management Plan for the province of Nova Scotia. We will continue with harvest, thinning, and biomass collection on the 270 acre woodlot until the property is sold. We will soon update the GlenWaddell website so that prospective buyers may visit online for details of the sales proposal.
